Lift yourself – How to get stronger?

How to get stronger? A question different people ask in different domains. Other than minor changes the bigger concept remains the same for anything you do. Here I share my take as I went from being a 57 kg under nourished 17 year old to a 71 kg 27 year old who among other things can do this:

You start off really weak, barely able to lift your own weight. But if you move forward with enough conviction in your beliefs, you learn, to not only lift yourself but also the additional weight(of additional responsibilities). This is when you become a source of inspiration for other people, but to get to that point you have to be able to lift your own weight first.

So how to get stronger? Its all about persisting with an endeavor for long enough for the effort to matter. You will have phases when your growth is so slow that you don’t notice any growth at all. There will be no aesthetic or apparent cues displaying your strength. But if you persist through this phase you will see that you grow the maximum when there is no visual change, you develop this iron will, this never dying attitude, which makes you stronger than you had ever imagined. Once you become strong on the inside the outside is an aesthetic manifestation of what lies within.

Whatever you might want to get strong in, its always about discovering the abundant strength within. Once you discover it, its only a matter of time till it displays itself in a physical or mental form. How to get stronger is not a question of never finding yourself in any predicament, its more about handling these predicaments in the best way.

Strength lies in being ready to pay your daily dues without expecting a pat on the back, strength lies in following your daily routines without expecting an immediate reward, so how to get stronger is more about effort than consequences. If there is relentless effort the desired consequences are inevitable.

Every extra pound that you lift matters, every extra cm longer that you run matters, every extra re that you do matters, every extra second that you hold your form for matters. It all boils down to sacrificing a part of the now for a stronger future.

How to get stronger at the gym?

A modern day Gym is a classic social experience. It contains disgruntled gossip mongers, wannabe Arnolds, alcohol and junk food balancers, social media acknowledgement seekers and the odd fitness enthusiast.

The trainer has to pay multiple roles these days. much beyond his scope of job. It includes being a patient ear to the disgruntled, a clinical nutritionist and steroid marketer for the budding Arnolds,  a bar tender to suggest the healthiest drink or snack and a camera person to the social media junkies.

The least of his concerns is how to make people fitter or stronger. The few fitness enthusiasts ironically find themselves at the wrong place at the gym. They end up wondering how to get stronger in such an environment of frolic and fitnesslessness.

So how to get stronger?

Well you have to realize that what separates you from those around you are your ambitions, to achieve what you desire you can’t allow yourself to be one among the herd. You have to go beyond obvious thresholds, resist the temptation of doing the usual things and be convicted to your belief in your self.

When a farmer tills a filed he doesn’t get immediate harvest, at times there is a drought and he gets no harvest at all in spite of all his tilling. But that doesn’t mean that he stops tilling his fields. Just because you see few or no results doesn’t imply that you  stop paying your daily dues. Only when you pay your daily dues do you stand a chance of getting stronger.

You wont learn how to get strong in the courses of one article but when you allow yourself to progress over a long period of time without keeping an eye on immediate results. Resolve to get stronger with every breath……
