The One Week Wellness Challenge

Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. “…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” WHO

How you perceive life determines the quality of your thoughts, which over a period of time leads to fulfillment or emptiness. The ones who spend time indulging in activities which nourish their soul develop a better, more well rounded perception than others who don’t.

The ones who ignore these aspect throughout the journey called life, end up with modern day ailments like stress and depression. The most common example of this is in a family, where siblings, who have similar upbringing and environemnt, end up living different lives.

Coping with the Speed of Life

The speed of life is so fast these days that finding time to feed the soul seems to be a task well suited for some hermit in the Himalayas. Yet this ignorance has lead to many irreversible problems, mental problems which most often show up as some physical ailments.

People end up spending millions to cure these ailments, which can be easily avoided if they can mold their lifestyles slightly. The one week wellness challenge is your doorway to a more fulfilling life. It will be difficult to sustain as the modern human mind is conditioned to be fast. But if you are able to cope with this wellness challenge you will reap infinite benefits over time.

One Week Wellness Challenge

The one week wellness challenge is devised for people to put a brake on their fast lives and cater to nourishing their souls. Rather than taking a trip around the world to find peace, the wellness challenge will help you discover your peace while doing your daily activities, with a minor modification.

The wellness challenge is specially prescribed for people who look at extrinsic factors to blame for the lack of wellness in their own lives. It can easily be incorporated in your daily routine irrespective of how fast your lifestyle is.  I am sure if you follow this challenge for one week, you wont be able to get these healthy changes out of your routine.

Here are the lifestyle enhancements you:

  1. 5 mins of silence to start – The quality of your day depends on how you start it. So when you get up lie in your bed for 5 minutes and focus on your breathe. You have to be hollow and allow thoughts to come and go. Everyday you have to increase this time by 1 minute.
  2. Lemon-aid– The first things you should do after this is have a glass of water with some drops of lemon.
  3. Digital Detachment– For a period of 15 mins after you get up and 15 mins before you sleep, you have to keep all digital devices away.
  4. Water Therapy– During the day you have to take out time from work, and have 5 water breaks.
  5. Divide your meals– No meal skipping. Also rather than eating too much at one time, divide your meals. Don’t eat all that you are served at once, take two breaks of 15 mins for lunch.
  6. The Caveman Diet– Try as much as possible to avoid sugar, have fruits and vegetables, meat, milk products, soups, pulses and grain.
  7. Surprise someone– Make it a point to direct one good gesture each day of the week towards someone without expecting anything in return.
  8. Sleep– Sleep your quota of 7 hours at night. Before sleeping visualize the happenings of the entire day and be grateful.
  9. Make a mistake– Try something every day of the week where you are certain you will make a mistake. Go beyond the limits of embarrassment.
  10. Be mindful– Slow life down. Individualize  tasks as much as possible. Don’t undertake two activities together, no multi tasking until and unless it is impossible.
  11. Be true to yourself– Yes, these points are not easy, and you are most certain to miss out on a few of them, but be true to yourself and accept that you are trying something new and it will be difficult. Don’t quit if you miss out.

Our ancestors were lucky with respect to time. They had the same 24 hours but not so much to do with them. As a result they automatically had enough time to work on their perception and dint need these wellness challenges. But in the current scenario its essential to take out time for yourself because life and habits have changed.

What used to come naturally before has to be acquired now. That’s why  wellness challenges like these are well worth your time. They wont hamper your routine, but make you follow it in a better way and lead to enumerable benefits in the time to come.
